24 Days To Purdue Basketball: Anfernee Brown

I know your first reaction. It is, "who?" Not many people know who Anfernee Brown is, but in the end he could become a key asset in getting one of the top targets that Purdue has in the class of 2015.

Brown is Purdue's newest walk-on for men's basketball, joining junior Neal Beshears and sophomores John McKeeman and Stephen Toyra. He comes from E`Twaun Moore's old high school where he was a three-year letter winner and played with 2015 target Hyron Edwards. That connection could prove valuable as Purdue is going hard after Edwards, and it is good to have a friend of his already on the team to put a good word in his ear.

Brown was a productive member of the backcourt with Edwards and could be a valuable asset down the line. As a senior he averaged 18 points per game and as a junior he put up a 15-6-6 line, which is pretty damn good for a high school guard. He was an honorable mention all-state player this past season and team MVP despite playing with a top 50 player in the entire class of 2015.

East Chicago hovered around .500 during the last three seasons and failed ot advance out of the sectional, but that is mostly because they play in a very tough sectional that included Glenn Robinson III at Lake Central (won the 2012 sectional) and a Munster team that was undefeated in 2011 and 2013 before losing later in the state tournament. His dad was his coach too, so you're know you're getting a solid player that is a gym rat.

Anfernee is a heady guard that plays with a high basketball IQ.  He is a good 3-point shooter and is very quick on the court.  Also, he rebounds very well for a guard, grabbing nearly 6 rebounds per game last season.  Look for him to keep improving and have a big year this season.  His release on his shot is a little different, but it still goes in quite a bit. Solid small school prospect.

Instead of taking a scholarship elsewhere he decided to walk-on at Purdue, where he could very easily earn some playing time. It was clear last season that we desperately needed three-point shooters. I'd be surprised if he earned that role immediately, but it sounds like he is a hard worker that could evolve into a specialist role. I am excited to see what he can do.
