Purdue has gained another defensive end after losing a safety in the latest recruiting news, keeping the class of 2013 at an even 20 commitments about a week before signing day. Tyvel Jemison was a casualty, possibly due to academics, as the 2-star safety off the list according to GBI.
The list moved back up to 20 with the addition of Evan Panfil, a 3-star defensive end from Lincoln Way Central in New Lenox, Illinois. He is listed as a 6'5" 230 pound defensive end and one of the top prospects in the state of Illinois. He recently flipped from Illinois to Purdue:
Sometimes the math is really easy to do. In the last few weeks defensive end commit Evan Panfil -- who committed to Illinois back in November -- was wavering a bit after getting an offer from Purdue. Then, when asked about it, Panfil said he was "still committed to Illinois."
But then defensive line coach Keith Gilmore left to take the same job with North Carolina.
Suddenly Panfil's status wasn't nearly as solid and on Monday he flipped his commitment from Illinois to Purdue.
Here are the highlights of Panfil. He enters a now very crowded class of defensive ends. Antoine Miles, Ra'Zahn Howard, Danny Ezechukwu, Jake Replogle, John Strauser, Johnny Thompson, and Johnny Daniels are all commits along the defensive line. I think this means someone could switch to O-line before all is said and done.
By my numbers there are only 1-2 spots left in this class. Nate Wozniak and Shon Akins look to be the top two candidates for the last few spots, with a few other visits coming on the final weekend.
