We’re almost into single digits for your 9th ranked Purdue Volleyball team and the bearer of the number 10 is Katie Griffin. At 6’2" she brings even more size on the outside and provides key depth behind Ariel Turner and Cat Rebarchak. This is definitely not a case of a position set in stone and a talented freshman such as Annie Drews could put some serious pressure on here.

Avon, Ind. (Avon HS)
Outside Hitter

2012 Projection: Front row rotation member
Katie saw a little action as a freshman, but it was the 2010 season that saw her garner the most playing time of her career and she responded by averaging 1.88 kills per set and coming up big with double-digit kills against Pittsburgh and conference powerhouse, Penn State. Last year she played in 19 matches compared to 32 the year before, but she still averaged over 1.8 kills a set and posted double-digit kills against Michigan State and Iowa.
Coming into this year Katie is going to get every opportunity to succeed, and it’s time for her to put the playing time to good use. In the past she’s definitely shown flashes of brilliance but this needs to be the year that she shows everyone why she was ranked 32 nationally as a senior in high school. The good news is that Katie is very smart, as evidenced by her achieving Academic All-Big Ten last year and the year before. There is absolutely a ton of talent here and with Ariel Turner garnering much of the attention of every other team, there will be opportunities for Katie to show it.
