58 Days To Purdue Football: Robert Maci

Today's featured player is a guy who has had limited playing time due to depth and injury, but enters this year as one of our listed starters and could make some noise on the defensive line.

Robert Maci - Sr.

Hometown: Fishers, IN (Cathedral HS)

Defensive End

6'4", 241 pounds

2012 Projection: Starter at defensive end

Maci enters this upcoming season as a starter at defensive end with Ryan Russell. Maci could have a huge impact on the upcoming football season and makes our front 4 something that running backs and quarterbacks need to be scared of.

However, Maci is coming off a pretty big foot injury that made him miss most of last season. But before his season ended, Maci was on track for a pretty solid year; recording 2 sacks and 10 total tackles. During the 2010 season, Maci recorded 17 total tackles, deflected a pass, and also caught an interception. Maci has the ability to make plays, and is a quality player to have.

I think it's also a possibility that Maci could take some snaps as an outside linebacker in the 3-4 scheme as well. But we have a lot of talent at both the defensive end and linebacker positions that it's hard to tell who will be playing where and how often, which is actually a good thing.
