I'm pleased to announce that Purdue has inked another football recruit for 2013. This news is coming a few days late since it flew right under our radar (this is what happens when TMill leaves us interns alone), but I am glad to confirm that Parker Cothren, a defensive end prospect out of Alabama, verbally committed to Purdue on Tuesday.
The 6'4", 250 pound DE comes from the small town of Hazel Green. He plays football and basketball at the local Hazel Green High School--a 6A athletic program and a school of about 1300 students--where he recorded 72 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, six sacks and three forced fumbles in his junior football season last year.
Apart from accepting the scholarship from Purdue, Cothren also looked at offers from Arkansas State, South Alabama, Troy and Western Kentucky. Here is a link to his page on ESPN Recruiting: http://espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/player/_/id/168875/parker-cothren.
And to further research the guy, here is a highlight tape of Cothren playing at Hazel Green.
The kid seems like a great talent, and he already has excellent size to play as an End in the 4-3 or as a pass-rushing Outside Linebacker once our defense makes a more drastic shift to the 3-4 in the future. All in all, I am very excited to see just what Cothren can do for Purdue Football in the future. And you should be, too.
In other news, this guy marks eight football commit for 2013. While Purdue continues to rack up the recruits, I have one thing left to say. Parker Cothren, welcome to the fold.
