Today marks the 87th day to Purdue Football and is also the first day in a while where our player isn't a defensive linemen. We are gonna get a little crazy and look at one of our new prospects at wide receiver! I know what you're thinking, we at Hammer and Rails are wild, right?
Shane Mikesky - Fr. (RS)
Hometown: Zionsville, Ind. (Zionsville HS)
6' 4", 197
2012 Projection: reserve at wide receiver, possible contributor on special teams.
Shane Mikesky is lights out fast. He was at track star at Zionsville, winning state in the 110m high hurdles three times (2009-11), and was basically Zionsville's lone receiving threat. His senior year he caught 39 passes for 760 yards and 10 touchdowns, and Zionsville passed for a little over 1,200 yards.
Mikesky was only rated a two star recruit, so he has some room to develop. But he has good size and tremendous speed. He may not see the field all that often this year, but keep your eye open for him when he's out there. He can blow by defenders and out jump a lot of them too. He is definitely a receiver we want Marve/Henry/Terbush to be throwing to in the red-zone.
With all of this upside to him, Miskey could potentially be a player of interest down the road, but this year it is hard to see him having much of an impact with players like Antavian Edison, O.J. Ross, Gary Bush, and Raheem Mostert playing ahead of him. Hopefully, Mikesky develops into a monster outside receiver that we can throw bomb passes to him for 20+ yards. Keep your eyes open for Shane Mikesky, he could very well be a wildcard for Purdue in the next few years.
