Boilermakings Is Celebrating Kevin Plawecki

Only seven Purdue baseball players that have been drafted (exempting Moose Skowron, since he wasn't drafted) have ever made it to the Majors:

Matt Kinzer - 1984 (Cardinals)

Elam Rossy - 1985 (Orioles)

Archi Cianfrocco -1987 (Expos)

Jermaine Allenswoth - 1993 (Pirates)

Dave Gassner - 2001 (Blue Jays)

Jay Buente - 2006 (Marlins)

Josh Lindblom - 2008 (Dodgers)

Of those seven, Buente, Gassner, and Kinzer had only what amounts to a cup of coffee with a combined 21 games of MLB experience. Last night, Kevin Plawecki took a big step toward becoming the eighth player on that list when he was drafted 35th overall by the New York Mets.

Plawecki is the highest Purdue player drafted since Chadd Blasko was selected 36th overall by the Cubs in 2002. Shoulder problems pretty much ended his career in 2007. Only Allensworth (34th overall) and a guy by the name of Sherrard Clinkscales (31st overall in 1992) have been drafted higher as Purdue players. Congrats to Kevin, who is certainly not coming back for his senior season now. If you're a first day draft selection, you're gone. It's that simple.

On to the Boilermakings:

Examining B1G assistant coach salaries - Big Ten Blog - ESPN
Assistant coach salaries are on the rise throughout college football, and the Big Ten is no exception. Yes, Indiana, at 1-11, pays its assistants more. I don't weather to be pleased that we're doing better with lower salaries or to bring up IU's assistants on theft charges.
