If you were in Indiana on Friday night, or anywhere in the Midwest for that matter, you know that it was a cold, rainy, brutal night for football. I ended up covering Zionsville at Brownsburg and the game featured 12 fumbles and barely 200 yards of offense. The teams were a combined 13-1 coming in, too.
So some of the numbers for the Midwest guys will likely be down a bit this week. Danny Etling was also facing a pretty good Warren Central team too.
Danny Etling - QB - Terre Haute South, IN - L 35-0 at Warren Central - The good news is that Danny should finally get back on the winning track this coming week in his final home game. TH South will host Lawrence North, who is awful. How awful? They have given up 59.4 points per game while only scoring 7.5. They lost 48-28 to Indianapolis Tech, and that game accounted for almost half of their total offensive output for the season. They have lost games 70-0, 63-0, 77-0, and 75-0.
Even then, Etling may not get to show off in his final home game. He re-injured a bad ankle against Warren Central and left the game early. He completed one pass on one attempt for 80 yards:
Danny Etling was sacked by Warren Central's Cameron Johnson and was injured. Etling put no weight on his right leg as he left the field - Etling's been plagued by a bad right ankle for the entire season.
Raetz said Etling's ankle wasn't broken and he anticipates that he'll play next week against Lawrence North.
Terre Haute South drew crosstown rival Terre Haute North in the opening round of sectionals.
Keyante Green - RB - Eagle's Landing Christian Academy, GA - Idle - ECLA did not play this week, but I did find that Green rushed for 134 yards and three TDs on only eight carries. He had 225 yards and five TDs coming in, but had missed the previous two and a half games. ECLA is 4-1.
Randy Gregory -DE - Arizona Western C.C., AZ - Season complete due to injury
Dwayne Johnson - OL - Houston Bellaire, TX - L 44-27 at Houston Madison - Johnson and his offensive line teammates played well, blocking for 248 rushing yards on 25 carries and another 129 passing yards, but it was not enough for the win.
Austin Logan - DB - Tallahassee, FL - L 29-26 at Pensacola Catholic- Logan was listed as having four tackles in this loss, but had no other statistics.
Jake Replogle - DE - Centerville, OH - W 13-0 vs. Northmont - Centerville is now 5-2 with five straight victories as they close in on a playoff spot. Replogle had a sack and multiple tackles for loss, plus, it looks like a touchdown on offense.
John Strauser - ATH - HS of St. Thomas More, IL - W 49-14 vs. Paxton-Buckley-Loda - Couldn't find any stats for this one, sorry. Strauser was mentioned as a leader on the defense, however.
Johnny Thompson - LB - Apalachee, GA - L 30-20 vs. Flowery Branch - This game update is behind a pay wall, but Apalachee played well in the first half before falling.
David Yancey - ATH - Lake Central, IN - L 38-17 at Merrillville - Lake Central also found out its first round sectional opponent this week as they will host Portage next Friday. They finish the regular season this Friday by hosting a good Valparaiso team.
This past week lake Central saw its conference championship hopes die with a loss to Merrillville. Yancey did rush for 122 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries, but Merrillville figured him out in the second half.
Parker Cothren - DE - Hazel Green, AL - L 23-13 at Austin - A modest two game win streak was stopped as Hazel green fell on the road. There are even Cothren-specific highlights!
Myles Norwood - WR - Grace Prep, TX - L 28-7 vs. Midland Christian - The defending state champion in that class rolled to a victory despite the long bus ride to Arlington. No stats could be found.
