The state of Indiana is only two weeks away from the start off the state tournament. In fact, the sectional blind draw will be held on Sunday. The seasons of Danny Etling and David Yancey could be done as early as October 18. Others haven't even hit the halfway point of the season.
It has also been quite awhile since we have secured a commitment. That may change though with two name opponents visiting in the next two weeks at Ross-Ade Stadium. High profile games like these always bring in the big names. This weekend three-star prospects Lamar Smith (DB - Miami Southridge, FL), David Knevel (OL - Brantford, Ontario) and Kristopher Smith (LB - Flowery Branch, GA) are taking an official Purdue visit this week as we face Michigan.
In the meantime, here is what our current roster of commitments did last week:
Danny Etling - QB - Terre Haute South, IN - L 24-8 vs. North Central - Etling's Braves continue to struggle in the MIC, as they sit in last place at 0-5 before facing a surprisingly weak Warren Central this week. The last week of the season is against Lawrence North, who might have the worst 5A team in the state. Here is video:
TH South vs Indy North Central 09-28-12
Overall Etling was only 8 of 19 for only 138 yards and no scores.
Keyante Green - RB - Eagle's Landing Christian Academy, GA - W 42-3 vs. Holy Innocents - Green played for the first time in a few weeks as ELCA had a big matchup for state tournament seeding with Holy Innocents. ELCA had a ton of rushing TDs in this game, but I can't find any official stats. Let's just assume Keyante had a big game.
Randy Gregory -DE - Arizona Western C.C., AZ - Season complete due to injury
Dwayne Johnson - OL - Houston Bellaire, TX - W 63-7 vs. Houston Sam Houston - Johnson and the rest of his O-line cronies had a huge night as Bellaire racked up 493 yards, 331 of them on the ground. It is probably safe to say that Johnson did not play the full game because of the large margin.
Austin Logan - DB - Tallahassee, FL - W 54-0 at F.K Yonge - This was another big win as you can see. I found some stats for this and Logan was listed as having two tackles, but not much else.
Jake Replogle - DE - Centerville, OH - W 17-13 at Fairmont - Centerville is now 4-2 with four straight victories and there are even game highlights. Centerville trailed 13-0 at the half only to come back for the road win.
John Strauser - ATH - HS of St. Thomas More, IL - W 32-0 vs. Iroquois West - Strauser was the defensive star of the game in this shutout with 12 tackles, three of which were for loss. He helped hold the opposition to only 100 total yards.
Johnny Thompson - LB - Apalachee, GA - L 35-12 vs. Clarke Central - This wasn't the best game for the defense Thompson is a part of. A pair of running backs rushed for 100 yards apiece in this loss. He was not mentioned in the game wrap up.
David Yancey - ATH - Lake Central, IN - W 35-12 vs. Chesterton - Yancey's team is in second place in the Duneland Conference and goes to Merrillville this week. Merrillville is unbeaten in conference play, so this week's game will likely decide the title. Yancey had 113 yards on 21 carries, but 97 of those yards came on three big runs. He also had two touchdowns.
Parker Cothren - DE - Hazel Green, AL - W 14-12 at Madison County - No word if Cothren saw any Bridges on his way to Madison County, but his team won for the fourth time in five games. There are even Cothren-specific highlights!
Myles Norwood - WR - Grace Prep, TX - L 17-0 at Ft. Worth Christian - Stats were hard to come by for this one, but obviously Norwood did not score as his team was shut out.
