25 Days To Purdue Football: Brandon Cottom

So far fall practice seems to be going very well. The article (linked under the Boilermakings notes) about  Robert Marve has me thinking he will be touch and go at best this year, but I wish him the best. That may settle the quarterback situation. In the meantime, our running back situation looks good with Ralph Bolden and Akeem Shavers kicking some ass, so today's featured player is probably headed for a redshirt.

Brandon Cottom - Fr.

Hometown: Newton, PA (Council Rock HS)

Running Back

6'5", 255 pounds

2011 Projection: Likely Redshirt

Brandon Cottom is an absolutely huge running back at 6'5" 255 pounds. That means he is probably headed toward a fullback role once Jared Crank graduates. If he becomes a Mike Alstott-type I'll be perfectly happy. He is planning on majoring in aviation at Purdue.

Last season he was limited with an ankle injury for much of the season, but he still rushed for six touchdowns and a 5.9 per carry average. Much of that came in a game against Bensalem where he pulled off the Al Bundy by rushing for three scores and catching another. As a junior he was an all-area selection and 1,000 yard back. I don't play casino games much at all, but I think Purdue has an excellent chance of winning better than the slots if Cottom can pull off the Bundy a few times at Purdue.
