5 Days To Purdue Football: Antwon Higgs

As we transition into game we we feature a player that is transitioning to a new position. Antwon Higgs is "putting his hand in the dirt" and moving from linebacker to defensive end. This is a move many thought was coming for some time. He has the size for it, and so many former Purdue defensive ends did the same and moved to the NFL as a result. Can Higgs do the same?

Antwon Higgs - Jr.

Hometown: Pompano Beach, FL (Pompano Beach HS)

Linebacker

6'3", 252 pounds

2011 Projection: Contributor at defensive end

I expected ig things for Higgs last season, but he kind of fell off the map in making just three tackles in five games as a reserve. This was after seeing him play as a true freshman in 2009 extensively. Because of his play in 2009 some compared him to Shaun Phillips, mkaing his move to defensive end even less surprising.

Now he will battle Ryan Russell, whom coaches are very excited about, for playing time opposite Gerald Gooden on the defensive line. There will be room for new voices in the mix, especially with Ryan Kerrigan off to the NFL, so now is Higgs' time.
