8 Days To Purdue Football: Raheem Mostert

It is entirely possible that a true freshman could be the first player to touch the football for us in 2011. If we receive the opening kickoff a week from tomorrow Raheem Mostert will have a chance to show us something special. He comes in as a receiver with blazing speed. He has so much speed that he could start out as a kick returner immediately.

Raheem Mostert - Fr.

Hometown: New Smyrna Beach, FL (New Smyrna Beach HS)

Wide Receiver

5'11", 180 pounds

2011 Projection: Contributor at receiver, kick returner

Our return game has been virtually nil since Dorien Bryant and Desmond Tardy graduated. That can change this year with Mostert, who is a return ace. Last year in high school he returned nine kickoffs and one punt for a touchdown. Yes, that wasn't against Big Ten competition, but that's pretty damn good at any level. For good measure he added 39 receptions for 723 yards and four touchdowns too.

Mostert is a blink-and-you-will-miss-him type of speed merchant that can be a major asset for us. Just look below. He is deceptively fast it seems.
