18 days To Purdue Football: Nnamdi Ezenwa

Depth at linebacker will be a major plus this season, and one of those players providing depth is a seasoned veteran who has been around the program for some time.

Nnamdi Ezenwa - Jr. (RS)

Hometown: Acworth, GA (North Cobb HS)

Linebacker

6'2", 225 pounds

2011 Projection: Reserve at linebacker

This is Nnamdi's fourth year in the program, but he has been making some headway in practice toward seeing the field. He has so far only seen action in one game, back in 2009. Right now he is probably second on the depth chart behind Will Lucas and Joe Holland at outside linebacker.

He comes to us from Georgia where he was a two-time Cobb County Defensive Player of the Year and his team's MVP as a senior. He has dual citizenship in both Mexico and Nigeria, which I am sure tears his family apart when it comes to the World Cup.

Apparently Nnamdi Ezenwa is a very popular name in Nigeria, like Steve Smith or something. I found a decent high school basketball player with that name from the El Paso area, as well as a British dude. In high school he was part of a team that was #1 in Georgia for five weeks and even reached the USA Today top 25 at one point. Teammates Matt Roark and Matt Britain received Division scholarships to Ohio and Kentucky, respectively.
