Danny Hope has been busy this week, snagging the 7th commitment for the Class of 2012 today. Steffon Martin, a JUCO linebacker at Arizona Western, decided to join the program after a visit a couple of days ago. Martin is a local boy, as he attended Pike High School. His academics forced him to take the JUCO route to college football but he has landed back in the Midwest.
Martin is coming off a year in which he recorded 59 tackles and six and a half sacks. He also managed to snag two interceptions and recover six fumbles. He played weakside linebacker his freshman year, but the Purdue staff has recruited him to play the middle.
When Martin comes to West Lafayette, he will be engaged in a good battle for playing time with many players. In keeping with Hope's idea of recruiting speed, Martin runs a 4.53 40. Martin is gaining valuable experience at Arizona Western and it should benefit him when he joins the Boilers in 2012.
