Welcome to the Fold: Austin Appleby

It's been a busy week as far as Purdue recruiting goes.  From the commitment of Ryan Morris to the de-commitment of Kyle Molock, there has been a lot of news.  Tonight, Danny Hope added his sixth verbal for 2012 when 3-star quarterback recruit Austin Appleby committed to the Boilermakers.

Appleby, a 6'5 quarterback for Hoover High School in Ohio, had over a dozen offers.  Last year, Appleby threw for almost 1500 yards and and 14 touchdowns in just seven games.  Appleby suffered an ACL injury that robbed him of the end of his season, so he'll fit right in to our ACL injury therapy group.

As far as his fit goes, Appleby compares more to Caleb TerBush than any other quarterback on the roster.   Appleby looks to be more of a pocket passer than a runner, and has a very nice looking ball.  Judging by his highlight tape, he has a very strong arm and he isn't afraid to squeeze a throw into a tight window.  Appleby will join the program when Rob Henry is a junior and Sean Robinson is a sophomore, so playing time right away isn't expected.  However, he brings something a little bit different to the table and I look forward to Appleby's development at the Cradle of Quarterbacks.
