Thanks to our friends over at GoldandBlack.com, I saw that Purdue has picked up another football recruit. Ryan Morris, a 6'6, 260 pound tight end from New Jersey, committed to the Boilers tonight after an unofficial visit over the weekend. Morris, a three star recruit, had a dozen offers and interest from numerous other schools.
The Barnegat High School junior is coming a season in which he had 30 catches for 494 yards and 4 touchdowns. Morris also played on the defensive side of the ball, coming up with 31 tackles and two sacks as a defensive end. It will be interesting to see what position Morris ends up playing with the recent influx of tight ends to the program. If he continues to bulk up, I can see Morris being an effective defensive end.
I came away impressed after watching Morris's highlight tape. He showed decent speed for a kid his size and was able to pull away from some defenders on a couple of his catches. His big frame also allowed him to run through some linebackers on his way to big gains. I look forward to watching Morris play for the Boilers as I believe his athletic ability will provide us with a key player on either side of the ball.
