Hello fellow Boiler fans, it is now time for my first post here at Hammer and Rails. Some of you know me as Riley Schmitt, blogger and TV personality for Rant Sports. Others know me as HawkeyeBoiler, a resident of any Open Thread on the site. Finally, the rest know me as "Wait, isn't that the guy who accidentally hit himself in the cherries during the Illinois game?" All of those answers are correct, and now you can add football recruiting guru for Hammer and Rails to that list.
On Thursday, Purdue picked up its second kicking prospect in a week as Paul Griggs, a junior from Charlottle Latin School. Griggs had offers from Yale and Rutgers and interest from a dozen of other teams. Griggs looks to be a good bet to be a jack of all trades for Purdue, as he handled all of the kicking duties last season. A very intelligent player, Griggs boasts a 3.71 GPA and a terrific sense of style as seen on his Rivals profile.
One of the top ten kickers in the class of 2012, Griggs went 8 for 11 on field goals and 47 of 50 on extra points. A long of 48 plus 56 touchbacks shows the leg strength Griggs has. Griggs also managed to punt 39 times for an average of 39 yards per punt with a net of 38.5. Finally, Griggs took home six honors last year, including being named to the NCISAA All-State First Team. Between Griggs and Thomas Meadows, it looks like our Boilers are set in the kicking department for years to come.
