31 Days to Purdue Football: Normando Harris

This seems to be the week for possible starters in the secondary. Of course, there are about 15 guys vying for four starting spots.  Only one, Albert Evans at safety, has been virtually assured to start. Everything else is up for grabs.

Normando Harris - Fr.

Hometown: Miami, FL (Monsignor Pace HS)

Safety

6'1", 180 pounds

2010 Projection: Possible starter at safety.

Who knows who the other starter at safety is going to be? The list of candidates is long with E.J. Johnson, Logan Link, Crhis Quinn, Ishmael Aristide, Max Charlot, Walter Williams, and Jarrett Dieudonne all having at least a chance. I think it I good too. With this many guys competing they will only push themselves to get better. The short term doesn't look good, but the long terms paints a picture of depth and growth at the position.

Chris Quinn, with a little bit of experience appears to have the inside track at the moment, but Harris has yet to arrive on campus. Harris is an athlete that was also an excellent wrestler and track athlete. He was a state finalist in the triple jump as as senior and honorable mention all-state in wrestling. Both of these give him a nice edge at the position. The wrestling experience should help with tackling, and the track experience will help with leaping and speed.

As I wrote back in January when he committed, he comes from a high school that is used to winning. He played this past season with Stephen Morris, who received a scholarship from the hometown Hurricanes. Much of what I wrote in January has not changed.
