February 24th was a dark day for Purdue basketball
August 24th is a joyous day.
After six months off the court, Robbie Hummel returned today. Never has light shooting and drill work meant so much to the fans of this program. Here is a sampling of that dark moment when he went down:

Though our Boilers fought valiantly the rest of the year, that injury probably cost us a trip to the Final Four, and maybe even a National Championship. We've had to stew on that since. I remember sitting in Lucas Oil Stadium, just as I expected to back in April, and I was bummed because Purdue was only on a banner ringing the upper deck, not on the court.
Today almost feels like Project Houston is a full go. Though he hasn't been officially cleared yet (that may come as early as next Tuesday), he was on the floor, shooting, on day one of fall workouts. We're just under the three month mark until the first game of the season, and it is no big deal if he can't play in the first few games because we should win those easily, anyway.
Some people have complained about our non-conference schedule being weak, but I think it is perfect. In those first few games we need guys like Travis Carroll and Sandi Marcius to get used to the college game. It is also the perfect chance for Robbie to get back up to speed. By the time we have a serious challenge at Virginia Tech, we'll have a few games under our belts and we'll be ready to roll.
Still, I can hardly contain my excitement this afternoon. I had to go on a five minute Facebook, Twitter, and text message-fest in order to tell everyone I know the news. I even accidentally texted J Money twice. I have waited two years for this season once all the pieces for it were finalized through recruiting. I knew it would be our best chance to win a National title. One more piece fell into place today. Hopefully it will lead to One Shining Moment on April 4, 2011.
Aw yeah, guess who's back...
