34 Days to Purdue Football: Max Charlot

Today's player is another newcomer and potential starter at Safety. Charlot is a JuCo transfer that was a late signee. He is expected to provided immediate depth at a position of need. We could have both Michael Eargle and Charlot start as JuCo player in the secondary, which is fine with me as long as they get the job done.

Maz Charlot - So. (JuCo Transfer)

Hometown: Corona, CA (Corona Santiago HS)

2010 Projection: Possible starter at safety

Charlot in high school

Charlot is the rare JuCo transfer, like Jaycen Taylor, that came here with three years of eligibility instead of two. He went to the same high school and junior college as the recently departed Dwight McLean, who was a two year starter for us at safety. Academically I am not sure why he went to a Junior College. He had a 3.1 GPA and an astounding 1470 on his SAT's.That link includes some high school highlights of him as well. More highlights can be found here.

There is little doubt he is a smart player. That is the type we need since the secondary will need to learn fast in order to be ready for the opener at Notre Dame. Charlot could be a key to a win there. If he and Michael Eargle can pair with Albert Evans our concerns in the secondary may not be as bad as thought. Charlton Williams also has game experience, as does Chris Quinn. Considering that these five guys are the leaders at the moment we should be okay.
