89 Days to Purdue Football: De’Ron Flood

Today we have our first offensive player in the countdown with incoming freshman tight end De'Ron Flood

De'Ron Flood - Fr.

Hometown: Fairview Heights, IL (O'Fallon HS)

Tight End

6'4", 230 pounds

2010 Projection: Possible reserve at tight end

The tight end position is a bit unbalanced with three seniors and a boatload of inexperienced players behind them. Kyle Adams, Jeff Panfil, and Jeff Lindsay are expected to be the main guys, but we may play one of the incoming freshmen a little to give them experience for 2011. Flood could be that guy, as he graduated high school early in order to go through spring practice this year.

Flood was a major reason that O'Fallon High went on a surprising run to the Illinois state quarterfinals. He finished the season with 38 receptions for 408 yards and one touchdown. He also played some linebacker, so if he ever has to switch to the defensive side of the ball he does have some experience. His best game was the state quarterfinal game against East St. Louis with 10 catches for 117 yards.

I leave you today with Flood's high school highlight reel, which is the first of this countdown. We're getting a quality, versatile player here that may contribute immediately.
