Our next player is one that likely won't see the field this year, but his dad was nice enough to e-mail me personally last season when I started writing about his high school exploits. Josh Davis will be entering this season unsure of his place on the team. He was recruited as a defensive linesman, but he could easily end up on the offensive side of the ball.
Josh Davis - Fr.
Hometown: Plain City, OH (Jonathan Alder HS)
Offensive Tackle
6'5, 285 pounds
2010 Projection: Likely redshirt
I see that the move has already happened. Purdue's official profile lists him as an offensive tackle, but Davis spent most of last season on the defensive side of the ball at Alder High in Ohio. They lost in the first round of the state tournament 42-0, so he has something to prove when he arrives at Purdue. He was also only a two star recruit according to Rivals, but that rating came as a defensive tackle.
As mentioned, Josh's dad e-mailed me during last season to give an update on Josh's progress. He was kind enough to give me some better links to track his stats and some updates on his weekly progress. He joins the list of cool relatives as readers that include Chris Kramer's mom and Joey Elliott's brother.
As for Josh, he is likely looking at a redshirt season this year. With a position switch to the offensive line and several upperclassmen ahead of him I think he is going to go the route of most offensive linemen and sit out while gaining muscle and practicing. I don't have a problem with that, either. Unfortunately, most of the information I have found on him is mostly as a defensive tackle prospect. Still, he comes off as a kid that enjoys being coached. He wants to lead on and off the field while following his coaches. This is the type of player that can emerge as a strong player in the future. I leave you with his video, just in case he moves back to the defensive side of the ball.
