Dru Anthrop wins L.V. Phillips mental attitude award for baseball

1

Incoming basketball walk-on Dru Anthrop helped lead Lafayette Central Catholic to Indiana's Class 1A baseball state championship Friday night. LCC defeated Vincennes Rivet 14-1 in the championship game to win their third baseball state title. Anthrop had two hits and 3 RBI on the night. This game was actually notable for something Rivet did. The tiny southwestern Indiana school has just 93 students in four grades and before the season Cory Montgomery begged his sister, Emily Montgomery to play. Rivet had a team of just 11 players and Emily was the starting left fielder for the team. She is believed to be the first girl to play on a boys state finals team in Indiana history. She ironically played on Rivet's girl's basketball team that was state runner-up in class 1A in March.
