And Then There Were 56,400(ish)

The South End Zone bleachers have been a home-away-from-home for many visiting fans - Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

The South End Zone Bleachers (at least part of them) are coming down

We are a little late on this article. I was travelling and Travis forgot to take his computer on his current trip. Oops.

Anywho, as most of you have seen, the upper bleachers in the South End Zone stands are coming down effective immediately.

The decision was made in order to avoid necessary maintenance to the bleachers to ensure their safety and to repurpose the area with a new look and feel in anticipation of the previously announced proposed major renovation in the coming years.

Granted, this may seem like another cheap move from the Athletic Department, but I think the upcoming project (and poor attendance) seems to give them excuse to just say "Oh F*** it" and just remove most of the bleachers all together.

The upper bleachers account for approximately 6,100 seats. Fans that have purchased tickets in that area for the upcoming season will be contacted by the Purdue Athletic Ticket Office beginning Monday and offered seats in the lower bleachers or in section 129 of the main stands at no additional cost for the 2014 season.

The lower bleachers, which seat approximately 1,000 fans, will remain at present.

If anything, this may affect more of the visiting fans and families who took advantage of the lower prices in the South End Zone. This will bring the attendance down to about 56,400. Just as an interesting fact, most of us know that Ross-Ade hasn't officially sold out since Joe Tiller's last game when we beat IU in 2008. If this new attendance number for Ross-Ade took effect when Danny Hope began coaching in 2009, only the 3 ND games (09, 11, and 13) would have sold out. The only other games that came within ~2000 of the new attendance was Ball State in 2010 (54,124)  and Northern Illinois in 2013 (54,258).
