71 Days to Purdue Football: Devin Smith

Today we cover one of our monster men in the trenches

The countdown keeps cruising along as we lead up to a nu start (Arrested Development joke. If you don't get it then I pity you) for Purdue's football team. Today, we will be looking at a returning senior who was a solid anchor on our offensive line.

Devin Smith - Sr.

Hometown: Detroit, MI (Arizona Wester JuCo)

Offensive Tackle

6'7", 320 pounds

2013 Projection: Starter at OT

Smith joined Purdue in the summer of 2012 after being one of Danny Hope's top-recruited juco transfers. Smith chose Purdue over Kansas, Eastern Michigan, and Toledo. Smith made an immediate impact on the team and was a starter from day one. His size was a huge asset to our O-line.

Smith was ranked the 8th best OT in the nation by jcgridiron.com and was rated a 3-star recruit by Rivals.com. Before Purdue, Smith blocked for an offense that averaged over 400 yards of total offense per-game. His team was the runner up in the NJCAA National Championship game, falling short to East Mississippi Community College in 2011. He was also the number 2 rated linemen in Michigan coming out of high school.

Smith is a big dude and will continue to hold onto his starting spot on the line, barring any injuries or other unforeseen setbacks.
