Julius Mays commits to Kentucky
http://wildcatbluenation.com/2012/05/13/breaking-julius-mays-commits-to-kentucky/
Kentucky secured a commitment tonight from Wright State combo guard Julius Mays. As a Raider last year, Mays averaged 14.1 PPG and 2.8 RPG, shooting 42.4% from three-point range. He’ll be a 5th-year senior on a UK team that has no established 3-point shooters outside of Kyle Wiltjer. He has chosen to pursue a master’s degree in sports leadership that’s offered at Kentucky, but not at Wright State. The news of this commitment comes courtesy of Steve Jones at Cats Illustrated.
Another one bites the dust. Now what? Any other options out there?
Mays visiting Purdue this weekend

Idk if he intends to visit UK after this visit, but this could be a good sign for the gold and black.
I'm really excited about Mays. I honestly think he could give us some much needed depth at PG/SG with his shooting ability and experience. I hope we land this kid. Especially since UK is showing a lot of interest. I'd like to see us win this battle.

Weekend Update on Recruits
Well alot of things to report . First up 2012 roster is unlikely to change . Caris levert is reportedly going to Michigan serveral reports saying he was blown away on his trip . Julius Mays is being wooed by Kentucky and they are now said to be the front runner for his final year .
Hyron Edwards may be the # 1 player in the 2015 class . His AAU team has not lost and won every tourney that they have played in . Everything I have read says he is the top point guard at the very least . And he is a stong lean for Purdue . His AVI on twitter has him standing in front of his shower with a Purdue shower curtain . He tweets Etwaun often and Etwaun tweets him . He list Etwaun as his favorite player . If he doesn't come here it won't be Jay Simpsons fault as he and Edwards have developed a freindship .
Bryson Scott was on fire in FT. Wayne he scored a tourney high 22 in their first game . He missed some of the tourney do to taking the SAT . He also got some negative press when he was T'D up for walking into Jabari Parkers Mac Irvin teams huddle . The Scotts got there late and their team was losing . The twins were trying to fire up their team . If you understand the Scotts this would be no big thing . They are emotional players who play balls out . I love it think Chris Kramer on steroids . Also note Bryson was invited to the NBA top 100 camp in June .
Kendall was stellar as expected the kid continues to impress all .
Alex Austin scored a team high 24 points in the Wolves first game . Which lead to Eastern Illinois offering him his first D1 schollarship . He Quickly accepted . I was hoping for him to work his way to Purdue. Congrates to him .
Jordan Ash played in 17 games in 48 hrs . Playing on the Wolves 17u ,16u . and 15u . I am going to leave this one alone .
Bates-Diop was selected as the most valuable player for the 16u class he scored 24 in the semi's .
Basil had a very good tourney several tweets about him playing above the rim Blocking shots and his over all effort .
Vince Edwards starred as expected . He also confirmed what I was convinced was total crap props to John Waddas he did receive an offer from Danny Hope as well as Eastern ILL . to play WR .
Rapheal Davis took Jay Simpson home for the weekend . The two of them were at the tourney and watched all the players recruited by Purdue . They were recruiting for us . You gotta love that .
Tyler Wideman was more than impressive as he showed and expanded game draining several 3's .
I strongly suggest that all of you keep a eye on HYRON EDWARDS he is that good .
Mays/Levert situation
From all of the buzz going around on here and on GoldandBlack people have been saying that Mays is pretty much a shoe in. In fact a very respectable source on twitter backed up the claim that "the only chance Mays doesn't play at Purdue is if the boiler express runs him over before he steps foot in Mackey." and again this is coming from a pretty reliable source. His twitter name is "markodascout" if those of you who have a twitter are curious.
Now to make my point. From what I understand, Mays is a one and done. Which is fine. That wont effect our 2014-2015 recruits. On the other hand, Levert would effect those recruiting classes for Purdue, unless someone went prep.
My point is that I would rather just take Mays and not Levert so we could recruit as many players as possible during the 2014 and 2015 stages due to the amount of talent in those classes. Another thing i was thinking about was that we dont want to put too many people in front of this years freshmen class. Dont we want them to see at least some time, so they can get better and mature as a player?
What do you all think?
Purdue VS UK Next Year? Possibly
It looks like the IU-UK game will be canceled for the foreseeable future and it looks like UK has reserved a date to play non-conference team at Lucas Oil (it was suppose to be IU). Should we throw our hat in and try to play them? It would add some strength to our schedule and we would get a chance to play against one of the top teams in the country out of conference.
Jay Simpson breaks his foot.
Came down wrong on it in open gym and is out 4 to 6 weeks. I really hope this doesn't set him back and he is able to be 100% for the trip. Something like this can have a lasting affect. You get behind and it's tough to catch up. A lot of folks think he is our most likely red shirt candidate next year. I hope they are wrong but this won't help his cause. Am I at 75 words yet? Yeah, good. OK I'm done.
Vincent Edwards offered by Hope
The mustachioed minister of mayhem himself has offered a scholly to the same Vincent Edwards that Painter has been pursuing. Per this tweet from a Miami (OH) beat journalist (@rickcassano).
Middletown sophomore basketball player Vincent Edwards has been offered a football scholarship by Purdue, says Middie FB coach Troy Everhart.
Discuss.
Spiece Run 'N Slam
This weekend in Fort Wayne is the Spiece Run 'N Slam AAU event. I'm trying to get an idea of the Purdue recruits who will be in attendance. I've been following the recruiting scene of the guys high school teams, but I'm new to following AAU ball. Oldboiler you are the guru of Purdue recruiting could I get some help on who to watch for this weekend? The only AAU affiliation I'm aware of is Kendall Stephens with the Illinois Wolves
Yogi "Kevin" vs. RJ
Round 1; Ball handling: I saw both these basketball players play, they are both good players.
Yogi: is natural with the ball like he was born to dribble, it is one of his best attributes. when i went to see him he was dribbling past double teams like it was nothing.
Ronnie: Good handling skills, above average, but i dont know if he can compare to yogi at this. but he is still a great ball handler trust me.
Round 1 goes to yogi
Round 2; Shooting/penetrating:
Yogi:Good shooter, especially from behind the arc.Hes not close to lights out what so ever though. From what i saw an average penetrator.
Ronnie:Great penetrator can attack the rim with ease, if the team he is playing prevents him from attacking the rim, he is going to hit his jump shots. He is great at both aspects.
Round 2 ronnie
Round 3; Defense/court vision
Yogi: To be honest defense is what Yogi needs work on, hes average.court vision..again average.
Ronnie: Great at both his court vision is brilliant , and defense is superior his stalkiness really helps.
Round 3 Ronnie, He is the better pg from what i saw.
This is all base doff what i saw..
