Bryson out scored 47-41 but Northrop wins
Final score Northrop 78-47 over East Noble . Scott scored 27 in the first half and could have out scored East Noble if hadn't been pulled from the game due to the blowout . He hit 17 of his 24 shots . I simply cannot wait on this Superstar to suit up for us . He is our last Recruit in the state tourney . But you know what they say save the best for last . I have said it before but he is Painters best recruit ever ! Kendall and St. Charles East won over home town rivial St. Charles North to advance in the Regionals of the Illinois State tourney. Kendall was double teamed from the tip he scored 11 and had 7 rebounds . The double team allowed Adduci to score 25 and cost North the game . Their coach said we weren't going to let Stephens beat us ! He scored 27 against North in a game earlier this season . Bryson the Beast ! He is only a junior it will be along wait on him to suit up ! These two players will change everything about Purdue BB history they are Great players and Great people . I am a big fan of Brysons Grandpa the ultimate Purdue fan .
My personal IU hatred... an introspection
With a shortened hate week beginning, I've spent some time lately trying to determine just exactly why I hate Indiana University with such a passion. It stemmed from hearing Gary Glitter's "Rock and Roll Part 2", which to 95% of the free world is better known as "The Hey Song". Like many recent Purdue students and alumni, I shouted "IU SUCKS" right in the middle of it. This Pavlovian response caused me to really look inside and wonder why I hate IU so much. One could very easily argue that they are a superior team this year (I'm referring to basketball obviously), and there isn't a lot of room for a counter argument from us, at least until we play on Sunday. So it would seem to follow that I would have no right to shout "IU SUCKS", something their fan base is quick to point out. And yet, I continue to do so, and do so with a great deal of pride.
I realized that I don't shout "IU SUCKS" just in reference to their athletic programs. Neither is it just their fans, who aren't all bad. It's not their academics, which outside of West Lafayette are widely respected. It's not their campus, which is actually very attractive and inviting. It's not their students either, I had several good friends go to IU. For some reason that I can't exactly put my finger on, I just hate the whole package rolled up into one. It's like subtraction by addition. Individually speaking, I don't have a problem with any of the things that make IU what it is. When you put it all together though, it becomes this loathsome, toxic, pungeant crap pile that I find to be utterly repulsive.
I really hate IU. I mean I REALLY hate IU. When I'm walking through a store and I see a rack of IU apparel next to a rack of Purdue apparel, I go out of my way to move a Purdue item in front of each IU item so that no IU item can be seen by a casual passer by. If it's a display that isn't easily covered up, I'll do something to screw up the IU display, while making the Purdue display neat and tidy. If it's only an IU display, I'll turn the items around so that the IU logos can't be seen. Such is my degree of loathing toward IU. Do I have issues? Meh, probably. But I know for a fact that I'm not the only one doing things like this.
Why do we hate IU so much? It's almost like it's embedded in my DNA somewhere. No other person in my family has ever attended Purdue, so I know I wasn't born this way. Perhaps my genes were altered in some way while I was screaming my lungs out in Mackey? Maybe my chromosomes were realigned while I was marching in the All American Marching Band? I don't know when it happened, but somewhere along the way I was forever conditioned to hate all things cream and crimson.
I don't want anyone to think I wish ill on their players, coaches, students, or anything else affiliated with IU. I would never cheer for an injury, or shout obscenities at players. One, it's classless, two, it's bad sportsmanship, and three, I don't want my Boilers treated that way. On the other hand, I would love nothing more than for the spirit of Shadowcat to bat away every single IU shot on Sunday, resulting in the first college basketball shutout in recorded history. I would laugh like Dr. Evil as their seniors plodded off the court on their senior night, weeping. On second thought, I might feel a little bad for them. Just a little. Perhaps I would only snicker instead of an outright laugh.
All I know is that no matter what, I'll always think IU sucks. Plain and simple. If I were to be offered a full ride scholarship to IU for a graduate degree vs. paying my way at Purdue, I'd pick Purdue every time. Hell, I'd rather pay my way through Indiana State than go to IU for free.
Bottom line: IU SUCKS. I don't care if they go undefeated 10 seasons in a row in every scholarship sport, I'll still scream IU SUCKS. Why? Because I hate them, and I'm proud to hate them.
Hate week (Er, hate for 4 days) is officially open. Share your reasons for IU hating below.

Robbie Hummel Senior Night Video
My friend took a video of Robbie Hummel's senior night speech from the paint crew, and asked me to post it on here. This is my first time posting anything on here, so if the link doesn't work I'll try again. It was such a fun night being in Mackey for the last time as a student, I have made so many memories the last four years, and this is certainly one of them. I hope you guys enjoy the video!

Big Ten Tourney
I am going to be stuck in El Paso next week anyone want to buy two all session passes for the big ten tourney? Wanted to give fellow boilers a chance to get at them...I would hate to have to put them on stub hub and some IU or O$U fan ends up buying them and sitting in the JPC section
Details:
Balcony Level
Section 208 Row 12 Seats 7&8
Looking for $250 a seat (290 Face value) / OBO
Mackey Question
I know that before the renovation, the seating capacity of Mackey was 14,123. I have noticed it a couple of other times during the season, but just heard on the radio that the attendance for tonight's game against Penn State was 14,565.
My questions: I thought the renovation was going to result in fewer seats, so where did the extra 442 come from? What is the max capacity of Mackey now? Wikipedia says it is 14,240, so do they have standing room seating now?
I've look around on the internet a bit, but not much, and haven't found an answer. Any help would be appreciated!!

Go read the SI - UCLA article if you haven't already
just dropped today:
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2012/magazine/02/28/ucla/index.html?eref=sihp&sct=hp_t11_a2
Really good piece on how UCLA has crumbled after 3 straight final fours. Included is stories about partying, drug use, fights off and on the court, insubordination etc. Gives me some insight into some of the issues that probably got Barlow thrown off the team and Smith's comments about that. Really shows why UCLA sucks so bad these days and why lots out there want Howland fired.
When Discussing Recruits...
It seems like there's a lot of negativity coming from the Basil Smotherman highlight video that was recently posted. There have been a lot of people completely writing off a 16 year old kid, while others have shown some support. I think at the end of the day, we should all step back, take a deep breath, and realize that none of us really know that's going to happen with any player...whether they've already signed or are just verbals.
Take a look at the famous 2007 class:
http://rivals.yahoo.com/basketballrecruiting/basketball/recruiting/player-Robbie-Hummel-40075
For Rob, I distinctly remember Terry Hutchins of the IndyStar saying that Robbie would be nothing more than a role player at Purdue.
http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/recruiting/player-E%27Twaun-Moore-29620
He was a very highly touted player and a high 4 star...but you could argue that he underachieved at Purdue a bit given his rating. Yes, he had some spectacular moments (see OSU at home last year) but also had games where he barely scored...and I remember people on H&R diving into heavy criticism of him in those games.
http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/recruiting/player-JaJuan-Johnson-40036
He was a top 50 prospect, but had numbers as a freshman that made our fanbase skeptical...or course, we all saw the beast he developed into.
http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/recruiting/player-Scott-Martin-47781
When he transferred from Purdue, some people thought it would be a huge loss and Purdue would really suffer. Given how horrible he looks at Notre Dame...it's hard to say what might have happened.
My point is simple...when we're looking at future prospects that might or might not be Boilermakers, let's make sure we do a few things:
1. Before calling how a player might do in college, take the time to watch them at least once in person...or maybe look on YouTube for full game highlights.... rather than a few random highlight clips.
2. Check how they look at the end of their high school career.
3. Make sure they are given a chance in Matt Painter's system before we judge. We've seen CMP develop players into great ones before...who's to say he can't do it again with these next two classes? And why not Smotherman?
Also, if they don't go to Purdue...it isn't the end of the world. It's pretty exciting what kind of depth Painter will have in a few years. Stay with the program, Boilers. BTFU
Has anyone else noticed?
I don't know if it is just me but I occasionally look at other Big Ten SBnation blogs like "Maize n' Brew" and "Hail to the Orange". Every time I do this, it strikes me how these blogs appear absolutely dead. For instance, our gamethread for the Michigan game was extensive (and hilarious) as always and Michigan's gamethread had a grand total of two comments. Just kinda struck me as odd I guess. I have to say I am glad to see this site isn't in the same state as some of the other blogs.
Purdue's Offense
Not sure if everyone has ESPN insider but I found this to be an interesting little article on our offense.
We have written that Purdue has a good shot of making the NCAA tournament, but we haven't examined how the Boilermakers are succeeding this season.
Typically under Matt Painter, Purdue has been one of the best defensive squads in the Big Ten. From the 2007-08 season to 2009-2010, Purdue allowed opponents to score well-under one point per possession. However, in 2012, their statistical profile has drastically shifted -- the Boilermakers are giving up 1.09 OPPP (per Josh Reed of the Big Ten Geeks). As Reed notes, the reason for the defensive slip is the team's makeup -- Purdue's best players this season are guards (along with Robbie Hummel) so it makes sense teams are shooting nearly 50 percent within the arc.
So how is Purdue in the midst of any postseason discussion? By limiting their turnovers and scoring at an efficient rate. According to Ken Pomeroy, just 13.1 percent of Purdue's possessions result in a turnover, and the squad's ballhandling limits easy scoring chances for opponents. Against Michigan, Purdue scored 1.22 PPP, shredding Michigan's defense and converting 51 percent of their twos. On the season, Purdue's offensive efficiency rating is 1.09 PPP but over the course of the last six games, according to data calculated by the Big Ten Geeks, the Boilermakers are the Big Ten's best offensive team -- 1.20 PPP.
Two suggestions for the premier seating problem
As an alum in his early thirties, I am young enough to still remember what it was like (and naive) to be a student. With 2 kids and a mortgage, I am old enough to understand that there is a lot in life beyond basketball games, no matter how much we love our team. So I can understand where both sides are coming from, and I can see why they are so angry towards the other sides but it pains me.
I'd think everyone will be happy if the premier seats are filled (either by the orig owner, or his friends, or if no one shows up, then at least some Purdue fans). The root of the problem is that *there is no effective and efficient way for the orig owner to give away the tickets if he can't go*.
Instead of yelling at the other side and blame them, I prefer to focus on finding a solution. It's called the Third Alternative (see Stephen Covey's new book). I have two suggestions. Pls feel free to critique. I welcome countering opinion and passionate debate, and it helps if you point out the fallacy in my proposal. I live in NY and haven't been to Mackey this year, so I may be wrong on a lot of logistics and overlook a ton of details. I know lots of ppl hate me but pls don't crucify me. Frankly, I've had enough of those and am getting rather tired. I truly mean no disrespect to anyone, and I speak with only the intention to contribute to a solution, not bickering.
