Poor Charlie Weis

Not to distract from the daily Swanigan non-update, but I saw a familiar face in the news. I guess he was fired from Kansas mid-season last fall. I know, I know - you are in shock that people aren't tracking the juggernaut that is Kansas Football. Five seasons at UND - Fired. Two and a half seasons at KU - Fired.

Interesting? No. Not terribly.

What is interesting is that while he was not coaching the Jayhawks last fall, he was still getting paid to not coach the Irish. $2M+, as a matter of fact. Almost twice as much as Kelly is getting paid by ND to actually coach the Irish. I know it was discussed at length at the time, and many actually considered his firing from ND unlikely since the university would owe him so much. Well they did. And they are still paying for it. As is Kansas.

So far they've paid $14.8 of the $18.9M owed to Weis... to not coach the team.

My heart bleeds for him.

Who knew that being a failed college football coach could be so lucrative? But it makes sense... just like with real estate, you make your money on the buy, not at the sale. Weis made his money the same way - at the buy.

On the other hand, you may also say that it is worth it for ND. In essence, they are spending ~$3M on their head football coaching. In doing so, they're back in the spotlight instead of being the brunt of jokes.
