Vaughn Watch 2015

As most of you know, Purdue was listed in Ke'Shawn Vaughn's surely final 'top 3' along with Illinois and WVU. Vaughn is a 4 star running back from Tennessee who was the state's Mr. Football this season. He seems to want to be the top back in whichever recruiting class he joins and seems to value playing right away. He has shied away from schools such as ND, OSU, Louisville, and Tennessee who have all gone after higher rated backs. He would be our highest rated back in the class and, depending on how he performs, could quickly rise to our #1 or #2 back along with Keyante Green, our most experienced returning back. He will have competition in our class with Markell Jones leading the pack so far. So how do we fair with the competition?

WVU: This article discusses the state of the union for WVU recruiting. The Mountaineers currently regard Vaughn as their first 'backup option' behind 2 other backs. WVU is considered behind in the race for both, so he could be left waiting until late on signing day, but the possibility of the spot opening is very real. The question is, will he?

Illinois: Vaughn projects to be the top back in the class for the Illini, with Dre Brown (think Hunt) as their best back in the class so far. Ke'Shawn is familiar with Illinois as he camped there this past spring and also recieved their offer days before Purdue's. He also unofficially visited this summer. In the head to head battle for his services, Purdue ended up getting the official visit first and also made his 'top 3' before he reopened his recruitment. That being said, there are currently fewer backs in the class for the Illini and, though he would be behind Josh Ferguson who returns as their clear #1 back, could see the field early and win the #2 spot.

At any rate, we will know the outcome in only a matter of days as signing day approaches.
