2017 Indiana HS Bball recruits.

Dont know how many on here follow recruiting, especially in the state of Indiana, but from finishing this summer up and seeing the majority of these guys in HS play i had to post something about them. The 2017 class is LOADED with talent. I feel it will be similar to the 2012 class when all is said and done but at this point it has at least as much high talent as the 2014 class did. This is still very early in their careers and some could drop out and some unmentioned players could enter. Future 150 is the only site I could find that has these kids ranked yet but come this time next year you wont need a recruiting website to know who these kids are.

Future 150 2017 Rankings:

#14 Kris Wilkes: 6'6" 190 SF: Wilkes is a long, quick, and athletic player. He has a good handle on the ball, super long arms, and very good athleticism. Wilkes plays for North Central HS and has already been offered by Purdue and IU. Also recently received an offer from Kansas. Wilkes averaged 9.4 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 1 apg, 1 spg and shot 54% from the field. Wilkes will have a lot put on him this coming school year as Eron Gordon has left North Central, leaving him the highest scoring returning player for them.

#33 Zach Gunn: 6'7" 190 SF: Gunn has a little more solid frame than Wilkes does but is still fairly skinny and lanky. Gunn is not the athlete or ball handler that Wilkes is but is a VERY deadly shooter. Gunn played for Hamilton Southeastern this past year and helped lead them to a 23-4 record. Gunn averaged 11.8 ppg, 5.3 rpg, and 1.3 bpg while shooting 51% from the field and 45% (44-98) from 3. Gunn's forte is shooting the ball but he also has a good game in the paint. Only IU has offered to this point but many more will come for Gunn, he will be one of the best players in the nation come senior year IMO.

#34 Paul Scruggs: 6'3" 185 SG: If i had to pick one player from this Indiana class to take, it would be Scruggs. He has very high level athleticism, can handle the ball and pass really well, can keep defenses honest with his 3 shot, and is a lock down defender, not to mention he is built like a tank. His athleticism, ball handling, passing and defense are what makes him great right now, with work being needed on his 3 shooting. Scruggs plays with 2016 Purdue Center target Joey Brunk at Southport HS. Scruggs averaged 13.5 ppg, 7.1 rpg, 3.3 apg, 1.7 spg, and 1.1 bpg while shooting 48% overall and 31% (15-48) from 3 in his freshman year at Southport. I would make Scruggs my top priority but that is because i love high level guard play. Purdue and IU have offered along with Kansas recently.

#36 Justin Roberts: 5'11" 170 PG: Roberts is a very nice PG prospect and plays for a pretty talented Pike team during the HS season. To be honest i havent payed much attention to him just because I was either watching Tahjai Teague or Justin Thomas on Pike or the 3 players mentioned above who all play on the same AAU team. What i do know is Roberts is a very good passer and defender at this stage of his game. He will get good experience playing with those guys on his AAU team and HS team. Roberts averaged 6.3 ppg, 2.3 rpg, 2.4 apg and 1.1 spg at Pike last year.

#38 Malik Williams 6'10" 180 PF: Here is another that i dropped the ball with. I have never seen Malik Williams. I dont make it up to Fort Wayne too often anymore now that Bryson and Blackmon are gone. Cant really say much about this kid other than Purdue has been in contact with him but have not offered yet. If anyone has any info i would love it!

Worth Mentioning: Cassius Smits-Franciso, a 6'7" PF who plays for Zionsville, is also a great player to watch in this class. I saw him a couple times this season and watched him bang it out with Zach Gunn and HSE. He has all the tools (size, athleticism, motor) to be a very good prospect but he just hasnt put it all together yet. He is my dark horse to be a major talent in this class.

Purdue has made contact with all these kids but have only extended offers to Wilkes and Scruggs. I am sure offers will soon be coming for these other prospects unless there is flat out no relationship between them and our coaching staff.

Let me know what you guys think of this 2017 class and please provide any extra info if you have any. Boiler Up!!!
