The south end zone project interests me for some reason, especially since Purdue is allowing ideas to be submitted with their survey. It sounds like Purdue is focused on more suites and "premium" seating to generate more revenue, a kids area, and a nice big video board. Not terrible thoughts, but I like getting creative when you basically have a blank canvas to work with. This is my first HR fan post, and I would like to hear some outside the box, potentially crazy, yet practical ideas from everybody about what to do with the south end zone area. I believe they need to incorporate something that is usable all year round and not just on game day's. I'm also including the parking area behind the south end zone as part of the plan. Here was my latest and greatest idea I posted a few days ago in one of the previous feeds.
Parking is always at a premium on campus. With how terrible Purdue football has been over the years, it makes the tailgating experience that much more important to get people to keep coming for games right?
So, how about instead of building luxury boxes and suites in the south end zone, you build a big tailgating parking garage (this would be a great project for the Purdue Engineers). Design it so that the edge of the 6 or 7 story garage that sits right on top of the field has "tailgate boxes where people can pay to park their vehicles that look over the field, and then there is some built in seating on the edge (much like a luxury box would have) of the garage that each tailgate box gets. Essentially you park your cars where the indoor suite would be, and then also have the seating that comes with your space. Then the rest of the garage that isn’t facing the stadium is just a regular garage to be used all year round. Obviously the facade that you see from inside the stadium would need to be made look nice.
-I’m not sure how you would regulate the amount of people per tailgate and how you would do food, but smarter people than I could easily figure that one out.
-The bottom level on the back of the garage facing Cary Quad be made into a PLAZA AREA and have some stores and food options and maybe something like the "purdue hall of fame" with a kids play area and really nice courtyard between the garage and Cary Quad. That plaza area could be tied in with the one near mackey to have live music, a beer garden and all sorts of stuff going on before and after games. Sort of like how they did the Super Bowl stuff in downtown indy with zip lining and so forth. It would become the centralized location of all game day activity…loud and fun.
