Purdue has long been in need of a deep threat, and the Boilers may have it in the redshirt junior that has also been a past contributor in track & field.
Shane Mikesky - Jr. (RS)
Hometown: Zionsville, IN (Zionsville HS)
6'4", 208 pounds
2014 Projection: Contributor at Wide Receiver
As the main writer for the Zionsville Times-Sentinel I saw quite a bit of Mikesky when he was in high school. He was a three-time state champion in the 110 meter hurdles and the entire Zionsville passing offense his senior season consisted of sending him deep and throwing it up for grabs. Well, it worked. He caught 39 passes for 760 yards and 10 touchdowns his senior season and proved he could be a dangerous deep threat.
So far in football his contributions have been small. In 2012 he caught only two passes for five yards, but was an Academic all-Big Ten selection. Last season he was better with 17 passes for 186 yards, putting him sixth on the yardage list for receiving. Since everybody returns, Mikesky will likely be in the rotation once again. He is a player with speed to burn and good size, so hopefully he can stretch some defenses and give Danny Etling a guy to throw to downfield.
