A couple years ago I tried to sit here and explain why I thought Painter was a good but not great coach who was paid like a great coach. I got killed for it. I'm pretty sure my username was even blocked because heaven forbid you voice the unpopular opinion. Now, there are people who are ready to drive Painter out of town, and I find myself having the unpopular opinion again only on the other side. Painter is a good coach. He's not a great coach. He's overpaid and has under performed, but do we really think he isn't one of the best 50 coaches in college basketball? He has been a good recruiter and is landing high quality players despite recent struggles. I guess my question is, have I gone too soft? I would have put Painter at around 45. Because (last year as the exception) I feel like we have been a top 50 program every year he has been here. What say you?
