Recruiting strategy

It’s the middle of summer and all we can do is look into the future at what Purdue's basketball team might look like in the near future based on the offers Painter has extended. One of the ways I like to get a feel for the players Purdue is recruiting is actually through Peegs because it seems they have fairly accurate descriptions of the player’s strengths and weaknesses and update them regularly. While looking for Purdue recruiting news I stumbled upon an article from Peegs yesterday regarding the start of the contact period for 2016 recruits. Posted below are some snippets that struck me as interesting:

"College coaches were allowed to contact 2016 prospects when the clock hit midnight and it became June 15, in the time zone in which the prospect lives…..

…Four-star power forward De'Ron Davis of Colorado said Crean was the first coach to call him at midnight….

….Crean was the first coach to call 2016 five-star guard Tyus Battle of New Jersey…

….Four-star forward T.J. Leaf of California tells Peegs.com that Crean was the first coach to call him at midnight….

….Indiana also was the first school to reach out to Atlanta Celtics guard Braxton Blackwell and also called fellow Atlanta Celtic guard Joshua Langford….

….2016 Oregon point guard Payton Pritchard, who has visited Indiana, said IU was the only school to call him at midnight……

….Three-star shooting guard Eli Wright of Owensboro, Ky., told Peegs.com that Crean was his first call when the contact period began…"

Obviously we don’t know what Matt Painter was doing at midnight June 15th, but my question to Hammer and Rails is this

- Should Matt Painter be one of those coaches who calls kids at midnight?

- What is the difference in Painter’s recruiting strategy compared to the other BIG schools?

- Should Painter clone himself so he can stalk these kids every waking moment?

- Is Tom Crean creepy / need a belt?

I think our latest recruiting class will be a very good one based on what I’ve seen and heard from them, but I still would like to know if kids actually find it acceptable to be bugged at midnight on Sunday. Let me know in the comments section.
