The next gripping episode of the daytime soap opera known as off-season recruiting will soon hit the airwaves as Eron Harris prepares to make his decision. Meanwhile, many of us, like middle aged soap-junkies trapped in a loveless marriage, will watch and hang on every twist and turn in hopes of escaping our daily lives, if only for a brief moment. Our protagonist, Eron Harris, the young local basketball player with a bright future, is faced with a life-altering decision. He’s been asked to donate his talents to Matt Painter’s basketball program, a distant relative on his father’s side, which lies in a hospital bed on life support. He is told by Painter and doctors that, if he doesn't donate his talents soon, the poor basketball program could take a turn for the worst.
The plot thickens when a rich Texas rancher and oil baron, Tom Izzo, walks into the hospital room with an expensive suit and a cheap smile (yes, I know MSU isn’t in Texas… just go with it). He wears a ten gallon hat and an eye patch, adding to his mystery, and brings with him offers of a future beyond his wildest dreams and NBA cash. The catch is that he has to abandon his ailing distant relative and come to work with him on his ranch. The offer is enticing and Harris can’t help but entertain it, so he is going to visit the ranch today (seriously, he’s going to visit MSU today and tomorrow).
As if the decision facing Eron wasn't hard enough, a flashy director from the liberal hippy-lands of California (same thing as with Texas… just go with it) is interested in having him star in his next independent film. John Beilein, an older director but with highly acclaimed success of late, excels at taking young guys like Harris from Indiana and Ohio and making them into stars. His latest feature film, Canadian Fever, was a smash hit at the Cannes. Harris is invited to John’s flat to go over some potential movie ideas and share some vegan pizza and edamame hummus next weekend (Seriously… he is visiting Michigan next weekend… and Ann Arbor is full of hippies).
Will Eron follow the rich rancher/oil baron to a future of fistfuls of cash, or will he help his ailing relative on life support?! Will he forsake the oil baron, not wanting to live in his shadow, and pursue a life of fame as an actor?! Can his ailing relative pull through without a talent transplant?! Will Beilein’s vegan pizza have a decent gluten free crust?! Will Eron learn the secret behind Izzo’s eye patch?! Find out next time on As the Harris Turns!
