Former USC running back Ty Isaac has decided to transfer, and most likely to the Big Ten. Last year Isaac played for USC as a true freshman. He ended up rushing for 236 yards and 2 touchdowns on 40 carries as a freshman. The numbers may not be eye popping, but that's an 5.9 yard average, while the best yard per carry average last year on Purdue's team was 3.8 from Akeem Hunt. Only 2 players had 40 or more carries, Akeem Hunt and Brandon Cottom. Given, Purdue's o-line play was nearly awful last year it can't hurt to try to get a former 5 star in the backfield.
While Isaac's stats last year aren't the thing that makes him seem so good. It's how highly touted he was. The former Trojan was rated as a 5 star by Rivals and a 4 star by ESPN. Purdue also offered him during the original recruiting cycle back in 2013. He was rated as the 4th best running back of the class by rivals, and the 13th best at his position by ESPN.
He has said he wants to come closer to his home in Joliet, Illinois and might be able to get an waiver to be able to play immediately. Purdue is only 90 minutes away from Joliet and they are in need of a running back. Also in an interview Isaac said, " I wouldn't say I have a top 3, but I am looking at Big Ten schools that are close to where I live". So most likely from that if I had to make a top 3 I would have to say Illinois, Purdue, and IU. The news just broke last Monday, so it's likely there still is a lot of time before he makes a decision.
Overall, Isaac would be a great addition to any Big Ten team, and Purdue would have to be very lucky to get him. All together it's guys like him who let us Purdue fans try to keep expectations high. Hopefully we can get him in the old gold and black. Boiler up!
