This post isn't really Purdue related, but just about high school in basketball. In particular, it is about one player: Taylor Persons. Having just watched the Marion vs. Kokomo game, I was expecting to be wowed by James Blackmon Jr., the next IU savior. However, I came away much more impressed by Taylor Persons.
I'm not sure how he slipped through the cracks of all major D-1 programs, but this guy could have one heck of a career at Northern Kentucky. I didn't see him shoot the ball much, but he was getting to the basket almost at will against the Knights. His ACL injury doesn't seem to effect his skills, or perhaps more importantly his confidence.
Speaking of confidence and passion, this is by far the trait that blew me away the most. He was an excellent leader on the court, directing teammates and giving them motivation. You could see how much the game means to him, and how much he enjoys winning. (Any team you can think of that needs a player like that?)
Overall, I think Taylor will be a special one for Northern Kentucky. If he continues working and stays healthy, he could be putting up some big numbers against weaker competition. Don't be surprised if you hear his name in a couple of years.
PS: This is directed mostly at you TMill since I know you are a Kats fanatic
