Indiana HS Basketball Class 4A State Final: Indianapolis Tech 63, Lake Central 59

Indianapolis Tech becomes the first Indianapolis Public School to win a State Championship in 34 years.

The long wait is finally over for Indianapolis Tech. As one of the state's most decorated basketball programs they lacked only one thing: A state championship. It had been 48 years since they had even made it as far as the championship game, but the Titans finally broke through with a 63-59 win over Lake Central.

Kentucky commit Trey Lyles finished with 16 points and 12 rebounds and Ball State commit Jeremie Tyler had 19 points as Tech, for the second straight week, built a big lead but had to hang on. With 1:50 left in the third quarter Tech had a comfortable 45-24 lead, but a 14-2 run by Lake Central helped them cut it to 49-40. Lake Central even had the ball and a chance to cut into the lead further, but missed a shot that was followed by a three from Tyler with 4:09 left that gave Tech some breathing room at 52-50.

What also hurt Lake Central was five missed free throws during the run, which would have come in handy in the closing minutes. A couple of late three-pointers and missed free throws by Tech allowed Lake Central to get it to 62-59 with 11 seconds left, but the Indians could not complete the comeback.

Butler recruit Tyler Wideman finished with 19 points and 12 rebounds for Lake Central, while Tye Wilburn had 20 points.

Lyles also was the winner of the Arthur L. Trester Mental Attitude Award for Tech.
