Breakout player of the year from the basketball predictions.

So I am sitting here at work, and find my list of predictions from the fanpost Charlespig put up before the start of the season. Needless to say, it was depressing to see how the end of the regular season stacked up against my expectations at the beginning.

Now I am not here to complain or pont fingers, nor do I want to hear any that (there are plenty of other places on this site for that).

What I do want to hear, is some input on who is the breakout surprise player of the year. When I look at the stats, no one player stands out as doing a lot more than I expected. By Charle's formula for production (totals, not average) Points + Rebounds + Assists + Steals + Blocks - Turnovers: Here is how the players rank. Toyra is the only walkon I listed since he is the only one that played outside of the mop up minutes during the season.

Hammons, A.J.......584

Johnson, Terone....537

Johnson, Ronnie....490

Davis, Rapheal.....338

Stephens, Kendall..326

Scott, Bryson......307

Smotherman, Basil..297

Peck, Errick.......294

Carter, Sterling...223

Simpson, Jay.......216

Carroll, Travis....88

Toyra, Stephen.....14

If I were to pick one, I think I go with Smotherman with consideration to Carter. Out of the 4 freshman, Smotherman was probably the least talked about in the preseason, but stat wise was right there with Stephens and Scott. Carter seemed to be really coming into his own the last few games before the injury and even becoming a somewhat of a leader.

Curious to see some other thoughts on this. Hopefully Charles can use this to help determine who the breakout player is. Or, maybe that is yet to be determined by a dominate post season performance by the player who steps up.
