Purdue Football-A search for answers

First off, let's state I am not "down" on this football team. We have shown improvement. Also I'm still pretty grumpy over Wisconsin whipping us with the passing game in the first half yesterday. Kudos to them, they knew we'd be out to stop the run, and gameplanned accordingly.

Someone in a post remarked we should be happy because over the past 4 games we had "faired respectfully". I'll agree with that for Minny and MSU. For Nebraska and Wisky, failed respectfully seems more accurate. Missed opportunities that we never came close to capitalizing on.

A stat I read for the Nebraska game indicated AA was 1 for 18 in third and fourth down situations. I understand the chunk play logic, am all for it. But the fact remains we can't convert third downs or sustain drives. Clutch doesn't appear to be a word synonymous with Purdue football right now.

Normally an inferior team, the longer they hang with a superior opponent, begins to smell blood in the water. That also doesn't seem the case with us. We could not hold off Minny, comeback totally against MSU. Missed opportunities the last two games after we got breaks in those games.

Hopefully the Northwestern and IU games reverse the trend. I really thought we had turned the corner. Last two games have left me with more questions than answers. Injuries and top opponents strike me more as excuses than answers right now. I have no doubt this team can be competitive, it's shown that. Like our drives on the football field, we just can't seem to sustain it.

Stadium was way too quiet yesterday, so I get the feeling there are others feeling somewhat the same way.
