Lineup Changes

After reading BoilerLuke's latest FanPost about who should start at point guard, it got me wondering about the whole lineup. I've got plenty of thoughts going through my head right now. For those who are sensitive to unorganized ramblings, I suggest not reading the rest of this. For those that continue, I would love to hear your thoughts on our current lineup situation. So, let's begin.

Who should we play? Do we play the best 5? Do we play the 5 that play the hardest? Do we mix and match? Here's my thoughts.

Starters:

PG- RJ

SG-Sterling

SF- TJ

PF- Basil

C- AJ

Obviously, I'm going with the mix and match approach. Here we have youth and leadership. We have drivers and shooters to help out AJ. Yes, I know this lineup will be outsized, but I think Sterling and TJ are capable of guarding bigger guards/forwards. Plus, we do a lot of switching on defense so I think 1 through 4 can switch for the most part with Hammons protecting the rim.

Backups:

PG- Bryson

SG- Stephens

SF- RayD

PF- Peck

C- Simpson/Carroll

Again, we have a great mix of players here. You have drivers and shooters and size. In theory, at least in mind, this is also a great lineup to play together. If they play with the Purdue intensity, this could be a suffocating defense. Of course, if the first unit played with that Purdue intensity, they should also be unstoppable.

Overall, I know we aren't making hockey style shift changes, so the idea of these 5 players playing together all the time doesn't hold up. The problem I have with Painter's rotations is the lack of sense. I can't stand when Painter throws a lineup together consisting of absolutely no outside shooting. For instance, when RJ, Bryson, and TJ are on the floor at the same time. They're basically, offensively speaking, the same person. It just doesn't make sense to me. Please, I'd like to hear some of your ideas on what can optimize are lineup.
