Obviously, I am not talking about just "wins", "play harder", or "better decision making." Those are the obvious and it's already on everyone's wish list that they are more like a given. I am talking about something more concrete. I don't like those who only bitch but never provide a solution. I prefer hearing workable ideas to improve a lot more than just whining about how bad things are or dwelling on things that can't be changed (e.g. not getting Harris/Dawson/GR3, or CMP's contract). It's always easy to criticize when you don't have to propose an alternative (e.g. those who truly believe in "Fire Painter" never gives a better alternative who is clearly superior and whom we have a reasonable shot at getting). So here are my top two that I'll petition:
1. A lot of us have been talking on the msg board already: Utilize our bench and institute a full court press (FCP). Our half-court offense is not moving, and our adjD is second-last in the conference (ahead of only PSU). We do have a rather deep bench and the best way to generate points is through turnovers. At the minimum, it'll raise the intensity level for our team, which is lacking. And don't wait until the game is out of reach to put it on. CMP needs to install a regular FCP and CP says so :-)
2. Do something about the seats! The boldest thing to do is for Burke to admit the mistake, and put the students back down near the floor more like Duke or MSU. Now I dunno how much it'll cost, and I'm sure that's a tough sell financially. So my Plan B proposal is to have some kind of system that allows Purdue fans in those seats instead of going empty and/or opponents' fans. (Did I see a bunch of reds in the Wisky game?) For example, make it easy for people to donate their seats back to the Athletics Dept if they know for sure they aren't coming. Then have some way to re-assign that seat for that game to either 1) most dedicated Paint Crew member, 2) students showing exceptional effort / improvement / accomplishment either academically or contribution to campus, 3) underprivileged kids and/or local charities. It'll pull our community more together and increase fans' participation.
I'd welcome your critique of my ideas and/or providing your own to help improve our team, and/or your experience as fans. I think we all share a common goal here, and it'll be best to put our minds together instead of bickering each other over bad losses.
