After watching Purdue Football lay down yesterday, I couldn't help but wonder why Coach Hazell is so reluctant to try someone else under center. I believe this team goes as the quarterback goes. (as have many Purdue Football teams) For arguments sake I point to the ND game. Rob Henry has a career best game in all categories and the defense plays decent enough to be in the game. Yesterday against Wisconsin, Rob Henry looked lost at times while throwing abysmal passes that most NFL receivers couldn't catch, and the defense looked as if they were trying to compensate for the complete lack of offense by taking big risks. I think this was partially coaching and partially the players. With that said and the current state of the Purdue's offense, I really wonder how much off-season talk of the rotating quarterbacks of the prior regime seeped into Coach Hazell's psyche? I was definitely a huge opponent of rotating quarterbacks of years past and I made it known (like many others) it was silly. We as fans have watched Rob Henry for a long time. We like his mentality, work ethic, and leadership. But none of that has ever translated into him being a good quarterback. Amazing athlete...but not a division 1 quarterback. We all know the future QB in on the bench or playing HS football. There was no surprise when Henry was named the starter prior to the first game. But at this point you cannot change your entire defense but you can give the team a big boost by replacing Henry with Appleby or Etling. These kids are both big bodies and Coach Shoop's offense MUST have an accurate passer in it to be competitive. It couldn't hurt the offense...of this I am very sure.
