2014 Purdue Football Recruiting: Week 4 Update

Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

News on David Blough, as he agrees to come to Purdue early.

There were a lot of visits this past week during the Notre Dame game, but no new commitments. The good news is that one of Purdue's most sought after players, David Blough, announced he is definitely on board, as he will graduate high school early in order to enroll in January and get an extra spring practice. He made this announcement after his official visit this past weekend and it allows him to get in competition with Austin Appleby and Danny Etling for next year's starting job. Kirk Barron is also planning on doing the same.

Here is what the rest of Purdue's recruits did this week:

Gelen Robinson - Lake Central HS, IN - beat Crown Point 23-0 - Robinson has been part of a stout defense that has surrendered only eight points total in the last three games. His defense gave up just 86 yards of total offense and only seven first downs. Robinson also spoke after the game:

Denzel Ward - Simeon HS, Chicago, IL - Lost 14-12 to Crete-Monee - This was a tight game as Ward's new HS team fell on a missed 30-yard field goal with 10 seconds left. Both times that Simeon scored touchdowns it was unable to convert the extra point.

Drue Tranquill - Carroll HS, Ft. Wayne, IN - Lost 41-35 to New Haven - This was almost a crossover as basketball target Steve McElvene is a large offensive tackle for New Haven. Tranquill was his usual outstanding self the night before he visited Purdue. He had two touchdowns while his younger brother, who is also getting some interest from Purdue also had two scores.

David Blough - Creekview HS, Carrollton, TX - Lost 27-24 OT  to Timber Creek - This was another tough loss for Blough, but he played well. He was 15 of 25 for 150 yards and two touchdowns against no interceptions in the overtime loss.

Austin McGehee - Pine Bluff, AR HS - Beat Watson Chapel 24-15 - This was a game between the No. 2 team in Arkansas' largest class against the No. 4 team in the second largest class. Unfortunately, I could only dig up a final score.

Gregory Phillips - Arabia Mountain HS, Lithonia, GA - Lost 46-12 to Tucker - Phillips, a former teammate of current freshman Johnny Thompson, had his second straight blowout loss this week.

Kirk Barron - Marian HS, Mishawaka, IN - Beat South Bend Clay 37-0 - Marian moved to 3-1 on the season and is currently No. 5 in the state 3A poll, one spot behind West Lafayette HS.

Trae Hart - First Baptist Academy, Dallas, TX - Beat Temple Christian 68-7 - I couldn't find stats here, but he had a very good game and I found a tidbit about him being named as a preseason all-area pick in Dallas. His 2012 numbers were staggering with 108 catches for 2.044 yards and 29 touchdowns.
