3 Days to Purdue Football: Carvajal and Clark

Carlos Carvajal - RS Fr.

Hialeah, FL (Milford Academy)

6'5", 234 pounds

Tight End

2013 Projection: Backup at Tight End

Gabe Holmes and Justin Sinz will be the two deep at tight end to start the year for Purdue, but Carvajal has the great size and decent speed to make an impact at some point. Sterling Carter also figures to play into the tight end rotation, but brings a blockers skill set to the table, where Carvajal figures to see time as a red zone target.

Carvajal initially signed with Purdue in May 2011 as the No. 28 tight end in the country but spent the season at Milford Academy in New York, joining current teammates Keith Byars II, Erich Berzinskas, and former Boilermaker Ken Plue as ex-Milford Academy prospects. According to 247Sports, Louisville, Tennessee, Minnesota, and South Florida also offered.

Carvajal is a solid route runner and he possess good hands but still has a ways to go as a blocker. Of the three previously mentioned tight ends, Carvajal still gives up about 15 pounds, even after putting on 20 pounds since high school. He was listed by many scouting services as an athlete coming out of high school, so the athleticism is there, but he's still got some room to grow before he makes the jump to an every down tight end for the Boilermakers.

Defensive Back

2013 Projection: Redshirt at Defensive Back

Clark was the first commitment under Coach Hazell's watch and he comes in as one of the highest rated as well. Clark also carried offers from the likes of recent powers Florida, Oklahoma, IU, and West Virginia. However despite Clark's talent, he figures to see a redshirt this year as a result of Purdue's depth at corner.

Clark came in with a 4-star rating courtesy of ESPN, good enough for the No. 37 athlete spot nationally, despite his high school team going 0-10 last year. Most of Clark's recruiting came under the eye of Danny Hope, so thanks Danny, Coach Hazell will take it from here. As previously mentioned, Clark figures to redshirt this year, but hopes are high that he can continue the recent string of successful Purdue defensive backs out of the Sunshine State.
