This is a big one!
The son of Purdue basketball legend Glenn Robinson and brother of Michigan player Glenn Robinson III ended his recruitment this afternoon. He is coming home to the Boilermakers:
Just verbally committed to Purdue! #boilerup— Gelen Robinson (@Gelen_Andre) July 8, 2013
This is coach Darrell Hazell's biggest get yet, as Robinson is rated as a 4-star commitment by Rivals and the No. 13 defensive end in the nation. He is the No. 4 player in Indiana for 2014 and projects as a possible linebacker in college. He's listed at 6'2" 231.
Robinson should be well suited for contact. He is the defending state champion in wrestling, where he was undefeated at the 220 pound level at 49-0. He was also the state runner-up in the shot put and discus during the track and field season. We're getting him for football, however, and he was the Defensive Player of the Year in northwest Indiana with 95 tackles, 47 of them for loss, 13 sacks, and five forced fumbles. Incoming freshman David Yancey was his teammate and likely played a big role in his commitment:
"Gelen has done phenomenal things in all three sports, which is rare these days," St. Germain said. "Literally, he never takes a day off, but this didn't start this year. This is who Gelen is. He works unbelievably hard. Yes, he's a gifted athlete, but his work ethic is what's taken him to the level he's at right now.
This is a huge commitment for Purdue, as he is the most decorated commit to date. Welcome aboard, Gelen! Time for you to lead the defense.
