A Little More on the Jr. vs. Sr. Game

Like OldBoiler, I too attended the Jr. vs. Sr. at Sullivan High School. I just wanted to add a little insight plus I have been dieing to write on this site since I started reading some time ago.

First of all I have to agree with OldBoiler that Bryson's defense is what made him stand apart from all of the other players there. He seems to play with a chip on his shoulder. I figured watching this game would be like watching an AAU game and not lots of defense. Bryson didn't seem to care. Another thing I noticed is that when first looking at him he is a legit 6'1" as listed and he appears very strong. The great thing is that his strength transfers very nicely to the way he plays. He penetrated and bullied his way into the lane anytime he wanted. He also did an excellent job scoring on transitions. Nearly all of his points that night were on layups. He did a nice job finishing through contact. I do wish Trey Lyles were there to see how he did going up against players taller than 6'6". Even though he missed his outside shots that he did take, his shot does not look all that bad. Much better looking shot than Ronnie. From everything I hear about him, he will put in the work to improve his shot while at Purdue. I was very pleased watching him. The great thing is that the worst we are getting with him is a lock down defender. He was the main reason Blackmon couldn't get going in the first half. His points came in the last 5 min. of the game when Bryson was out.

I really don't have much to say about Smotherman. By watching him in warm ups you can tell he has some athleticism. Other than his block and put back dunk, he didn't seem very interested in the game. I would say the verdict is still out on him.

The seniors I was impressed with was Darius Latham, VJ Beacham, and Bryson Scott. With the juniors I was of course impressed with Trevon Bluiett. Another junior who impressed me was Ernie Duncan. He played real hard and wouldn't back down from anyone. He has a great looking shot and made some 3s. He also played under control and seems to have great basketball IQ.
