Regular season ends; Big Ten Tournament awaits

I would have liked for our Lady Boilers bb team to be 25-4 to end the regular season. However we ended up 21-8. While there can be plenty to criticize in these 4 losses (3 home losses to unranked teams, 1 loss at IU), we are still in a good position. The key win today against the athletic and pesky Illini set us up for a 3 seed in the Big Ten Tournament. This was a crucial win, to say the least. Teams that have to play that extra day have it rough trying to play 4 straight days to be able to play in the championship game. While it has been done, it is not very likely. Teams like Ohio State, Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, and Michigan are capable of beating any team in the Big Ten on a given day if the cards all fall into place. We all know that February was rough on our team. We survived nagging injuries, a complete round of flu bugs, cold shooting spells, forgetting how to defend, the usual turnover problem, etc. etc. We sure looked like we were playing up to potential today. C-Mo hit her shots, KK ran the offense well and was all over the place, Drey and Sam O played lights out, and the others chipped in. We were able to kick it into that extra gear midway through the second half and it was fun to watch. Congratulations to our wonderful seniors: Drey Mingo, Sam Ostarello, and Chantel Poston. They will truly be missed after the tournaments are over. I was so happy to see them close it out with a win on Senior Day. As for predictions for the upcoming conference tournament, I fully expect our team to play above and beyond what will be expected of them. This will definitely be the deepest field in a long time. I would prefer we were playing in Indy. I have said it before. Last year's Big Ten Tournament increased my support for Coach Versyp. She put together three awesome game plans and the team executed them well. Of course it didn't hurt that Brittany Rayburn was on a mission from God. But let's Boiler up and make it 9 out of 17 next weekend!
