It has become obvious you need one of two things to win in the NCAA.
1. TALENT...long.....athletic....BIG! The old adage that guards win in the NCAA is a myth. B1G teams compared to BIG 12....we don't have many of the long athletic players.
TEMPLE and their length gave IU and Zeller fits.
2. COACH.....a coach that gets calls...influences refs. Or a player who does this.
Craft talks/whines to the refs 24/7 and gets the big call on the (what CYCLONE fans will call another blown CHARGE/BLOCK call//. KU game) charge instead of a 3 point play.
PURDUE V IU. When was the last time the Boilers got calls in a non home game? IU and DUKE get them almost every game. The Temple game switched after Zeller flopped(again) and the crowd and TC went NUTS. B2B away from the ball calls against both OWL centers slowed the aggressive D. IU went on to have an 8-2 foul edge...which is typical.
Most of us remember the 28 FT game of Greg Graham at IU. Hard to believe for the season he shot as many FT as BIG DOG.
I remember Travis Mayes and TEXAS setting a REGIONAL RECORD with 22FT against PURDUE to win at the HOOSIER DOME.......
I remember IU losing to AUBURN in the same HOOSIER DOME and RMK slamming a phone on the scorers desk.......then IU got 9 straight foul calls on AUBURN on their way to the 87NC.
MP isn't the kind of coach who chews on the refs the entire game like IZZO, BO and TC.
Hate to say it but we don't get any respect outside of the conference. Like IOWA STATE nobody nationally cares about Purdue basketball. We are looked at as a PHYSICAL TEAM......so its easy to call fouls on us.
So we better get more talent. Edwards! Smotherman! Stephens! Mathias! All 6'5" and over to play the 2-3.
We need a couple Oladipo types......GRIII or Hardaway.......
