Penn State women's game postgame

Thank you boiler bandsman for the thread for last night's game. Since you got so disgusted with the play and refs, I thought I would help out with a postgame analysis. Yes the refs sucked. And they sucked in Penn State's favor. But that is nothing new to women's ncaa basketball. I thought our player of the game was Dee Dee Williams. She was all over Maggie Lucas. With some better switching on the screens we could have held the queen of women's Big Ten basketball to less than 17 points. Which brings up my next point. In case you didn't notice ESPN believes that Maggie Lucas is somehow divine. Rules for ESPN play by play for a Penn State game: MAGGIE LUCAS is the best ever, at everything, all the time, has improved other aspects of her game, is the best shooter ever. Repeat the name every 20 seconds for the entire broadcast, switching around the same superlatives. Before the game, oh it is purdue, lowly purdue, up against Penn State and MAGGIE LUCAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! then Kara Lawson after the game: Penn State sure outplayed Purdue in the second half. Really? We outscored them in the second half. OK, now I got that out of my system. Little Miss Maggie couldn't hardly get a shot off when Dee Dee was on her. We just needed better switching. Also we let Alex Bentley do her patented pullup right up the gut when we were hanging so close on the scoreboard. Why didn't we stop that all night? It was a real battle in the post and we held our own there. Turnovers. OK, I covered that once again. Ugh. Missed free throws. Ugh. Courtney invisible in the first half. Sam O and KK just couldn't put much in the basket. BUT, I picked us to lose this game and the one at Iowa at the beginning of the year. We played far from 40 minutes of good basketball and at times we lacked mental toughness. For all of our shortcomings, we were still in the game late in the second half. We really made some heady plays and Courtney did her thing. They just had better luck down the stretch. Since Penn State won't be coming to Mackey this season, bring them on at the Big Ten tournament. If we can hang in there and be a 1 or 2 seed, we'll be fine. It looks like Penn State has a tougher schedule the rest of the conference season, and this year has proven that we do have a lot of teams floating around in the middle of the conference standings that can be very dangerous. If our Lady Boilers can win out, or if we lose one but so does Penn State, we'll be fine, too. I still really feel for Chantel Poston. People seem to have forgotten that she came out early in her Senior season playing some truly inspired basketball. She's had her bad breaks with injuries. I'd sure like her to be in game shape come tournament time. We should regroup and beat Michigan at home. We better, I am driving in for the game.
